‘Rekindle’-dementia awareness project:

VBMET was awarded funding by Bluesci to run awareness sessions around memory loss and dementia in BME communities. These sessions were delivered in the area of Old Trafford by Dementia Champion whilst supported by our valuable Volunteers. Dementia friends’ sessions were delivered alongside the awareness sessions, aimed to create awareness on reducing the risk of developing vascular dementia by adopting healthy lifestyle.

Saving lives plus:

Saving lives plus was commissioned by CCG Trafford and overseen by Public Health Trafford. This project was aimed at reducing health inequalities in Trafford by promoting Health Screening and Health Checks in the community. The emphasis had been more on engaging with male community members. To achieve this, different strategies were adopted by the male engagement worker including ‘Bus stop talk’. Intensive piece of work was completed in the summer with the four local mosques in Old Trafford. This outreach work was aimed at creating awareness on NHS Health checks and Bowel Screening. Health Engagement Volunteers were further trained to deliver the talks in the community whilst acting as ‘Saving Lives Ambassadors’.

‘Be bold to cook’- cooking with kids:

The idea for cooking with kids was brought forward on our previous healthy Cooking project from our ‘Eat Well to feel Well’, where it became apparent that there is a real need for a focused piece of work to be undertaken to introduce healthy alternatives and cooking methods to the diets of BME young adults and children as this well help them to be more informed and focused about healthy eating habits just from the beginning.

‘Me my health and I’ wellbeing course:

This Project was a comprehensive 10 weekly programme that was delivered twice in a year from two different locations in Old Trafford targeting sessions on Physical activities, Mental Health improvement, building resilience and self-esteem, healthy eating tips etc. This contributed to the improvement of the wellbeing of individuals in the community. This also provided information sharing and knowledge building and ultimately improved the wellbeing of Old Trafford neighborhood. The end of the project event was attended by Lady Mayor of Trafford Judith Lloyd to distribute the certificates of achievements amongst the attendees.
